Porter Prep is founded by Genevieve Porter, with over 8 years of tutoring and teaching experience. She began her career in education in 2018 as a teaching assistant for English as a second language at SOS Enfants, an orphanage in Dakar, Senegal. Since then, she has worked as a school proctor during the Covid era of online schooling, an at-home tutor helping more than 50 students, and a TA at the University of Arizona. Genevieve graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with degrees in French and Environmental Earth Science making her uniquely qualified to tutor a variety of subjects in both STEM and the humanities. In addition to content tutoring, Genevieve is also an executive functioning coach.

It is our philosophy to not only teach students content but also study skills so they can become self-sufficient outside of tutoring. Porter Prep emphasizes the Socratic Method to ensure students remain engaged during sessions. We believe that tutoring is only one aspect of a student’s educational career, so we encourage the collaboration of parents and teachers to personalize each individual tutoring plan for every student.
